The Application of Crime Prevention in Three Neighbourhoods

[2004] Rising crime rates is an international phenomenon. Crime prevention specialists need to adapt existing criminological theories and methods to counter this tendency. Creativity, boldness and a multi-disciplinary approach have become a necessity, including the old and tested ways to make them better. Following this line of thought a new crime prevention model for residential neighbourhoods was developed and the feasibility thereof tested in three South African neighbourhoods. This model called the HONC model, is based on the crime prevention through environmental design principles (CPTED).
