State intervention in area development in transitional urban China


[2007] State intervention seems to characterise the area development in China's urban transformation. The key question addressed in the paper is: What is the role of the state in area development in Shanghai? The paper shows that the state, if done properly, can play a crucial role in shaping the fortunes of cities and urban areas.
